More products than anyone could ever guess are made using GMO ingredients. Through my many hours spent at the grocery store, I’ve found products that are just as good, if not better than the traditional foods that I used to buy for my family. Some are a little higher in cost, but it is well worth spending a little more to get a product that does not contain harmful GMOs. The best way we can make an impact on these companies who use GMOs in their products is to stop buying them. If enough people stop buying products with GMOs, the manufacturers will start to pay attention and will eventually move to remove GMOs from their products. Tell manufacturers to find alternative ingredients for their products, and we’ll start buying them again! It’s that simple!
So here’s a few things I have found to be lower in cost, and comparable in product to the conventional brands that are loaded with GMOs. I do a lot of my shopping at Trader Joe’s- their store brand products are all non-GMO, have no MSG or preservatives, or any of the artificial crap you’ll find in a lot of the conventional products below. Whole Foods and other stores have great alternatives too, but these are some of the one’s I tend to buy:
Instead of: I buy:
Mott’s Apple Juice Trader Joe’s Organic Apple Juice
Goldfish Crackers Annie’s Organics Cheddar Bunny Crackers
Lay’s Potato Chips Kettle Brand Potato Chips
Heinz Ketchup Trader Joe’s Organic Ketchup
Welch’s Fruit Snacks Trader Joe’s Fruity Flakes (My kids LOVE these!)
Sabra Hummus Trader Joe’s Hummus
Yoplait GoGurt TJ’s Yogurt Squishers/Stonyfield YoKid’s Squeezers
(But beware these both have carrageenan- Sadly, I have yet to find a yogurt tube that doesn’t have carrageenan! Go to their Facebook pages and tell them you want carrageenan removed from their products- if enough people make some noise, they might remove it!)
Instead of This: I buy This:
Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Trader Joe’s Crispy Rice Cereal
General Mill’s Cheerios Trader Joe’s O’s
Chef Boyrdee Anything Annie’s Organics All Stars and TJ’s O’s Pasta
Conventional Coffee like Folgers Trader Joe’s Cup O Joe
Skippy or Jiff Peanut Butter Trader Joe’s Peanut Butter
Any Conventional Pasta Sauce Trader Joe’s Organic Tomato Sauce
Campbell’s Soups Trader Joe’s Chicken Noodle and Lentil Soups
Mission Tortillas Trader Joe’s Corn Tortillas (These are so good!)
I have yet to find a good K-Cup for my Keurig that is non-GMO, so if you know of one- let me know! I love my coffee!
There’s so many more Non-GMO food alternatives that I just can’t think of right now, but as I think of them, I’ll come back and add them. Do you have products to add? I’d love to know what they are! Leave a comment!
