You guys know how much I love coconut oil right? Seriously- I put that shit on EVERYTHING. We go through so much coconut oil, I have it on auto-ship on Amazon. We go through AT LEAST a 54 ounce jar each week, usually two. My all time favorite is Carrington Farms Coconut Oil which you can get ON SALE RIGHT NOW HERE. Here’s some of the things I use coconut oil for:
And the kid’s hair. It makes the BEST conditioner. It’s greasy, so I am cautious about how well I rinse it out, but it works so great. At least once a week, I will cover my hair with it, and let it stay on overnight. My hair tends to be really dry, and this really helps. It’s also great if you have dandruff or dry scalp, which sometimes the kids get.
My dogs love coconut oil almost as much as I do. They go nuts when they see the jar. I put a half cup or so in each of their meals, and they scarf it down. It’s so good for them, and the difference in their coats is noticeable since I started doing this.
Cuts & Scrapes
We don’t even use Neosporin anymore. The medium chain fatty acids & triglycerides (MCT’s) that are in coconut oil have antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. My husband thought I was nuts when I told him to put coconut oil on a cut he had once, but he tried it, and you know what? He only uses coconut oil now when he or the kids have a cut. One time, after first learning that coconut oil can help heal cuts faster, he had a bunch of small cuts from cutting down a tree. He decided to do an experiment, and put Neosporin on half of them, and coconut oil on the other half, and covered them with bandaids. The cuts with coconut oil healed in about 3 days, and the Neosporin cuts took almost a week to heal up. And the cuts that he used the coconut oil on didn’t scar as much as the others. He’s a believer. Every time someone in our house gets a cut, the go to is coconut oil.
Rashes & Bug Bites
It’s a miracle salve for itchy rashes and bug bites. No more chemicals and medicines for rashes and itches. We slap on some coconut oil and most times, the rashes and bug bites either disappear or stop itching within a few hours/minutes.
I use coconut oil to clean so many things. I use it when cleaning the fans- if you put a little bit of the oil on the fan blades, dust and dirt barely sticks to them. It seems strange, but I promise- it works! I also use it to clean my stainless steel appliances. I usually wipe them down with a vinegar/water mixture first, then give them a few swipes with a towel covered in coconut oil. Then wipe down with a clean, dry towel. And fingerprints don’t stick as much! Again, crazy, but it works.
I mix coconut oil with arrowroot powder, baking soda and essential oils and no longer have to worry about putting a bunch of chemicals under my arms. And it works great. Get my organic coconut oil deodorant recipe here.
I don’t use it on the kids without adding a few other things to it, because they are so fair skinned, but I’m not, and I use it as a sunscreen and for me, it works awesome. For the kids, when I have time, I mix coconut oil, carrot seed oil and zinc oxide together to make a great sunscreen. It works great, and depending on how much of each ingredient you use, it can have an SPF of 10-30! I even asked our dermatologist about it, and she was on board as long as we used quality ingredients and carefully mixed and stored it. I’ll post a recipe for you soon!
I also use it for cooking, but not as much as I use it for other things. My husband doesn’t like the taste of coconut, so I’ve had a little bit of a challenge when cooking with it. If you guys have any ideas- I’d love to hear them!
